Norwegian Christmas & Northern Lights Cruise - 8 nights

Norwegian Christmas & Northern Lights Cruise includes a 5-night cruise with Havila Voyages offering good chances to see the Northern Lights at sea. Experience a traditional Norwegian Christmas celebration on board, join a dog sledding trip and visit a real snow hotel. The trip starts in Oslo and ends in Bergen.

This is an independent/unescorted trip (you do not travel with a group). Duration 8 nights.

Day 1 - First night in Oslo  

Individual arrival to Oslo. Overnight in the centre of Oslo, or at an airport hotel at your choice. The centre of Oslo is located only 20 minutes from the airport by the Airport Express train (flytoget).

Day 2 - Flight to Kirkenes

Morning flight to the Arctic town of Kirkenessituated by the Barents Sea close to the Russian border. Kirkenes is ideally located in the middle of the Northern Lights zone. You will be picked up at the airport for your transfer to Kirkenes Snowhotel. 
Check in at an elegantly designed wooden Gamme cabin. 
In the evening, enjoy an Arctic dinner in the restaurant.
Optional: upgrade to an overnight stay at the Snowhotel.

Arctic dog sledding

In the afternoon, you will join an adventurous dog sledding trip in scenic surroundings to the wilderness of the Pasvik Valley.
What to bring: Comfortable shoes, warm and windproof clothing (special clothing will be provided).
Age restrictions: Min. 7 years old and accompanied by an adult.
Difficulty level: Average physical condition – involves physical activity on uneven surface and/or steep terrain. Not suitable if you have limited mobility.

Day 3 - Cruise departure

Embark the ship after breakfast for a cruise to Vardo, Norway's easternmost town, with the enchanting Vardohus Fortress. Continue along the Varanger peninsula before a late evening arrival at Batsfjord. All meals are included while on board (food only). Traditional Christmas dinner on the 24th.

Day 4 - Arctic coast to Tromso

Cruise via the arctic town of Hammerfest, across Soroysund to Oksfjord. The course is set via Lopphavet open sea and the ship finds quiet waters towards Skjervoy island and the arctic town of Tromso. Arrival to Tromso in the late evening. Set right in the middle of the "aurora zone", this city and its surrounding wilderness areas are ranked among the best places on earth to observe the incredible Northern Lights in the night sky.

Day 5 - Vesteralen & Lofoten Islands

You will reach Vesteralen in the early morning. The island groups of Vesteralen & Lofoten offer some of the most stunning scenery you will see during the entire coastal voyage. The region is renowned for its natural beauty with steep mountains, wild nature and small, picturesque fishing villages. In the evening the ship docks in Svolvaer, the capital of Lofoten.

Day 6 - The magic Helgeland coast

Early morning call at the village of Ornes, before the ship continues with short stops at Sandnessjoen and Bronnoysund. The Helgeland coast is known for its remarkable beauty with unique mountain formations, islands & the Arctic Circle.

Day 7 - Historic Trondheim

Early arrival to the picturesque historic cityf Trondheim, with time to explore the highlights of the city and stroll around in the areas with well preserved, tiny wooden houses, like Bakklandet and the Dronningsgate street.

Day 8 - Cruise arrival to Bergen

Arrival to Bergen at 14:30, check in at a centrally located hotel. Spend 1 night in this picturesque, colourful city with the UNESCO Bryggen wharf, the hillsides and Nordnes peninsula with authentic tiny, wooden houses and narrow streets, the Funicular to mount Floyen, the Aquarium.

Kirkenes Snow hotel  

Add-on Kirkenes

Stay at the exotic Snow hotel instead of the hotel in Kirkenes. The Snow hotel is rebuilt each winter and normally opens on December 20. The hotel is exclusively built with ice and snow, but there are normal beds with mattresses for a healthy sleep comfort. Next to the Snow hotel there is a heated service building with showers, toilets, sauna & restaurant, a heated Lavvo, a chalet reception building & a tiny reindeer park. Normal health condition is required for an overnight stay in the Snow hotel.
