The beautiful Geirangerfjord

The unique Geirangerfjord is along with the dramatic Naeroyfjord branch of the Sognefjord on the UNESCO World heritage list, and is really worth a visit, with its steep mountain sides and the spectacular waterfalls. The fjord is easily accessible from the coastal city of Alesund.

The Geirangerfjord is a located in Western Norway in the Sunnmøre region of More og Romsdal county in Norway. It is a 15-kilometre (9.3 mi) long branch of the Storfjord (Great Fjord), starting in the Alesund coastal area. The small village of Geiranger is located at the end of the fjord. There are marvellous views of the Geirangerfjord from the Dalsnibba view point, and the Eagles Road - part of the Golden Route

The Geiranger fjord is one of Norway's most visited tourist sites and has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2005, Along the mountain sides of the Geirangerfjord there are a number of abandoned farms. The fjord is also known for several impressive waterfalls.  The Seven Sisters and the Suitor (also called The Friar) are the most spectacular. The two falls face one another across the fjord, and the Suitor is said to be trying to woo the sisters opposite.

The Bridal Veil is another waterfall, so named because it falls delicately over one rocky edge, and when seen backlit by the sun it has the appearance of a thin veil over the rocks.
